Goldsmiths, Company of
- An act of 1300 gave the company the right to assay gold and silver. The metal was given a mark to denote its standard. The term *'hallmark' arose from that mark having been given in Goldsmiths' Hall. The company is now known as the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.
